Plug-ins are in use almost every day in any music production. What's your go-to plug-in? What's the oddest use you've put a plug-in into effect? E-mail the staff at mixeditorial@mixonline.com.
With 10 (business) days left before the AES convention in San Francisco, we thought we’d give Mix readers a sneak peak of some of the new products debuting at the show.
It’s top secret (don’t tell anyone!), but Millennia Media is launching the AD-596, its first product based on the API 500 Series format for the popular API 500VPR or Lunchbox racks. The AD-596 offers eight channels of 24-bit/96kHz A/D conversion with internal or external word clock (on BNC connectors). The analog inputs are DB-25 multipin in the standard Tascam format; outputs are AES digital, also on a DB-25 sub multipin. The front panel also has eight peak LEDs (one per channel) that glow at the clipping point: +24 dBu (referenced to 0VU = –20 dBFS) and can be set for peak hold or reset. Another front panel switch sets the sample rate to 44.1 kHz or 48 kHz (or doubled to 88.2 kHz or 96 kHz via a 1x/2x switch) or SR can be clocked to any external source.
AD-596 specs include a dynamic range exceeding 110 dB; Total Harmonic Distortion + Noise that’s less than 0.0005 percent; and ultra-low jitter performance.
The photo above shows Pepper Denny of Nashville’s Pepper’s Pro Shop (shown here with Millennia Media managing director Joel Silverman on the right). While on the West Coast tour with his band Blooddrunk Shenanigans, Denny stopped by Millennia’s facility and was treated to a preview of the AD-596.
The rest of us will have to wait until AES, where the AD-596 will be unveiled on Friday, November 5, 2010, in booth #713.
