According to the press on this single, Dex Romweber, who with his sister Sara formed the Dex Romweber Duo, has been a major sonic influence on Jack White. It doesn’t seem like a stretch. Romweber has more dark rockabilly soul in his little finger than most of us will ever hear, much less have. Imagine Nick Cave crossed with Link Wray; imagine Leonard Cohen meets the Burnette Brothers…Well, just imagine Dex Romweber or Jack White. This single, made in two days in White’s home studio, includes the original, blues-psychobilly song “The Wind Did Move,” with White pitching in on bass and vocals. Side B is a cover of Geechie Wiley’s “Last Kind Word Blues,” a wonderful old folk-blues song that’s made over with tough guitars, gospel piano and howling vocals. I don’t usually write reviews of CD singles, but this is just one of Dex Romweber’s great recordings, and if you love what he does with White, keep exploring.
