She’s back—and thank goodness! Skye Edwards rejoins Morcheeba on this latest outing, bringing her soulful yet playful vocals to the already intricate mesh work of trip-hop and deep-diving soul. As guitarist/multi-instrumentalist Ross Godfrey says, “As soon as we heard her singing over our backing tracks, it was magic. There’s a definite vibe that happens when the three of us work together, a combination of things that’s unquantifiable. It’s so personal to us, such a big part of our lives, that we got quite emotional about it. After that, it all worked out in a very natural way.”

And that vibe is in over-abundance throughout the album—from the African thumb-piano on “Even Though” to sitar and blues harmonica on “Mandala,” all cozily wrapped up by Edwards’ beautiful tone. Each track flows seamlessly into the next—you’d never know that they were flying tracks between Edwards, Ross Godfrey and Paul Godfrey at their respective home studios, with Ross Godfrey laying down guitar parts in Hollywood, Edwards recording vocals in Surrey and bringing it all together at Paul Godfrey’s France-based digs.

Blood Like Lemonade is a true delight for longtime Morcheeba fans—who were eager to have Edwards back in the fold—and newcomers, who may have gotten into the band with their last album, Dive Deep, which was basically the Godfreys working with a rotating cast of guest vocalists. Welcome home, Edwards.
