Universal Audio is being awarded a Grammy for "technical contributions to the Recording Industry" at The Recording Academy's Special Merit Awards Ceremony on February 7. Bill Putnam Jr. founded the company in 1999, just a year before his father, Bill Putnam Sr., received a posthumous Technical Achievement Grammy Award for his contribution to the music industry. Universal Audio has carried on the Putnam legacy by continuing to manufacture the hardware that has made generations of hit,s including the LA-2A and 1176 compressors. In addition, UA has created a new range of gear with the 21st-century user in mind, including converters, channel strips, preamps and the UAD DSP platform offering plug-ins and processors that work through any digital audio workstation. “Everyone at Universal Audio is thrilled and very honored by this award. We would like to accept this Technical Grammy Award on behalf of our customers, many of whom are Grammy winners and nominees themselves,” comments Bill Putnam Jr. “Universal Audio was started by my dad to make music sound better. To have UA honored with a Technical Grammy Award is a wonderful vote of confidence that UA is carrying on my father’s tradition and legacy.” Visit the Universal Audio site for more information.
