MasterMix's new Bag End-equipped 6.1 surround suite

MasterMix, a full-service mastering and DVD authoring facility located in Nashville, recently opened a new surround mastering suite with monitoring provided by six Nova Applause S with Threshold amps, low frequencies handled through Bag End D10-E dual-10 subwoofers, which are managed by Bag End-proprietary INFRA signal processing technology.

The new suite is solely used for multichannel projects and is outfitted for full-range 6.1 mastering for DVD or SACD and re-purposing of stereo material for multichannel presentation. The studio also offers EMM Labs Switchman analog and Tascam DS-M 7.1 digital controllers and a Genelec 7071A sub, depending on format requirements.

“We are using the D10-E dual-10 speakers driven by Bryston amplifiers to smoothly carry the low-frequency response of each main monitor to below 20 Hz,” says Jim Kaiser, MasterMix director of technology. “Gary Hedden of GHL Audio, the local Bag End representative, assisted with calibrating the system.”

Recent projects in the new room include DVD-A and SACD releases for Toby Keith and Lee Ann Womack, as well as albums from Fernando Ortega and Matt Redman.

Other recent DVD-A and SACD projects include George Strait's Honkytonkville, and DVD-V releases including Donny Osmond's Donny Osmond Live in London, Lynyrd Skynyrd Live and Michael W. Smith's Celebration.
