Plug-ins are in use almost every day in any music production. What's your go-to plug-in? What's the oddest use you've put a plug-in into effect? E-mail the staff at mixeditorial@mixonline.com.

Late in 2004, Audio Electronics Mattijsen (AEM), Meyer Sound’s Netherlands-based distributor, held the first Dutch training seminar for the Meyer Sound SIM 3 audio analyzer system on Spain’s Gran Canaria, one of the sub-tropical Canary Islands that lies off the coast of Morocco.

Fourteen eager engineers, including two AEM staff, headed for the sun, but Meyer Sound technical training instructor Mauricio “Magu” Ramirez’s intense program kept attendees busy.

All the attendees arrived on Gran Canaria either as certified SIM II engineers or having taken an earlier week-long comprehensive “Compact Seminar,” and all 14 left with SIM 3 certificates, which they received at the swimming pool at the end of the week.

The SIM 3 audio analyzer, evolved from the SIM II machine, is a real-time measurement system for optimization of touring and fixed-installation P.A. systems. The “all-in-one-box” concept and pricing of the SIM 3 system enables freelance engineers, smaller rental companies, service engineers and R&D teams to take advantage of this technology.
