Schubert Sound Systems (North Hollywood) is using Lab.gruppen to power its JBL VerTec line array on Bonnie Raitt’s new Souls Alike tour. John Schirmer, system tech for the tour, said he chose Lab.gruppen based on the sheer versatility of the amplifiers.

According to Schirmer, “Being able to use one amplifier to run many facets of the P.A. is unparalleled and provides a strong sense of security for a tour rig.” Schubert Sound Systems is powering the JBL rig with a combination of Lab.gruppen fP6400s and fP3400s.

Schirmer explains, “I have five Lab.gruppen P.A. racks for this tour: four main P.A. racks [three fP6400s and one fP3400 each] and one rack for subs, front-fills and flown center cluster [five fP6400]. We made the decision to build this rack for the system with all fP6400s because we use so many of them in the main P.A. racks. In the top of this rack, I have a fP6400 running four front-fills at 4 ohms on of one channel and a center cluster on the other channel at 2.8 ohms. We are using Lab.gruppen fP3400s for highs. At 5.6 ohms, where we operate them, we have found them to be equivalent to fP6400s. Therefore, we could use an fP6400 in an emergency and feel confident with the results because of the MLS switching onboard the amps.”
