Electro-Voice's new XLD line array system recently helped bring big sound to Austin's Saloon in the small town of Libertyville, Ill. Recently opening a new increased-capacity live room, and thus an equipment upgrade, Austin's sought out Creative Soundz to design and install a new audio system. After working closely with EV to address Austin's projected requirements, Creative Soundz arrived at the EV XLD as the solution.

The new rig, which comprises six flown XLD boxes and three ground-stacked QRx 218 subs per side, was put to task right off the bat for a double bill featuring Southern rockers Jimmie Van Zant and Jackyl. "The XLD sounds phenomenal," says Creative Soundz' Greg Schenk, who designed and installed the system with John Orzel, president of Creative Soundz. "It's hard to believe 8-inch drivers can deliver so much loud and clear audio—amazing performance for such a small footprint. And, of course, the tried-and-true QRx subs push out plenty of tight low end. Why EV? Their equipment is the most reliable and musical-sounding out there, and performers are always pleased to see EV in the house when they take the stage."
