Plug-ins are in use almost every day in any music production. What's your go-to plug-in? What's the oddest use you've put a plug-in into effect? E-mail the staff at mixeditorial@mixonline.com.
Triamp Group Productions (Kent, Wash.; www.TriampGroup.com) recently used Electro-Voice and Dynacord equipment for Paul Galvan’s “Make a Joyful Noise,” a benefit concert for the children and families of the Ronald McDonald House.
The event took place at Highline Performing Arts Center in Burien, Wash., with a concert program featuring adult and children’s chorus performances, all backed by a 13-piece orchestra.
Triamp Group used its Dynacord Cobra-2 line array system for the main P.A., powered by a pre-wired/pre-programmed drive rack featuring a Dynacord DSP 224 crossover with two Dynacord L2400 amplifiers. When asked about working with the Cobra Array, front-of-house engineer Scott Hurd says, “I really enjoyed how simply the speakers set up. Once we had the speakers in place, I was amazed at how good they sounded with very little tweaking on the crossover or EQ, especially in the vocal range.”
Over in monitor world, E-V Sx300 boxes were used as front- and sidefills. Electro-Voice FM 1202 and FM12-2 monitors were used for the choir and orchestra. “Having the stage completely clear of monitors was important for the client,” says Vince Agne, monitor engineer. “The Sx300 boxes are particularly effective as sidefills and frontfills, both sonically and visually. They’re a nice, clear-sounding box, and we were able to hide them easily to preserve sight lines.”
