Plug-ins are in use almost every day in any music production. What's your go-to plug-in? What's the oddest use you've put a plug-in into effect? E-mail the staff at mixeditorial@mixonline.com.

Recently on tour throughout South America, Colombian singer/songwriter Shakira performed two sold-out shows at the Velez Sarsfield stadium in Buenos Aires, Argentina. D.A.S. Aero powered line array systems were used to provide sound reinforcement for the more than 80,000 fans that filled the stadium.

For the South American leg of the tour, twin Digidesign Venue boards for FOH and monitor mixes, effects, in-ear monitoring and microphones were supplied directly by Clair Bros. At the FOH console was engineer Brad Madix, who has worked with bands such as Psychedelic Furs, Def Leppard, Queensryche and Marilyn Manson. For monitor engineer Vish Wadi, this was his second tour with Shakira after previously having worked with Sting, Mariah Carey and Madonna. Buenos Aires–based sound-reinforcement company Teddy Goldman supplied the P.A., composed of 48 Aero 38A along with 18 Aero 28A powered line array systems as well as others.

Thirty-two Aero 38A systems were flown 16 deep on each of the wings as offstage systems to supply sound for the side seating. Directly below the stage, six Aero 28As were used in mono as front fills to provide fill in the middle and sides of the seating area closest to the stage. Two large delay towers were set up approximately 60 meters from the stage and comprised 16 Aero 38A systems with 12 Aero 28As flown from the 38As by way of the AX combo for downfill. All rigging angle calculations and coverage predictions were carried out using the recently released EASE-Focus aiming and acoustic modeling software, which can be downloaded from the D.A.S. Website.

The setup of the massive P.A. was supervised by engineers Leo Aspra and Marcelo Telefanko from Teddy Goldman. "The Aero systems are supersimple; all you really need to do is plug them in and fly them," Aspra says. "They take very little time to get them up and running and sounding right. Out of all of our inventory, we prefer the Aero thanks to their light weight and simplicity."
