The Oberlin Conservatory of Music (Oberlin, Ohio) recently completed a major upgrade to their state-of-the-art recording facilities, which included four Grace Design model 801R 8-channel remote-control microphone preamplifiers, as well as a model 901 reference headphone amplifier. The sale was handled by Grace Design dealer Sweetwater in Fort Wayne, Ind.
The Conservatory records over 450 concerts per year including jazz, early music, opera, orchestra, electronic music, chamber music, in addition to a multitude of other classical formats. The 801Rs are used as the primary microphone preamplifiers in each of two control rooms as well as two mobile recording configurations. The 801R outputs feed multichannel, high-definition A/D converters, which, in turn, connect to a number of digital recording systems the Conservatory employs. The model 801R systems were chosen for their exceptional sonic performance and reliability.
"At the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, our main goal is to educate the next generation of musicians and to make music at the highest possible level," noted associate dean of technology and facilities Michael Lynn. "An important part of that process is recording, which must capture the subtle nuances of the finest performances. We feel that the Grace 801R will help ensure that quality through its transparent, detailed, open, natural sound and its flexible feature set."
Grace Design VP of sales and marketing Doug Wood comments: "The Oberlin Conservatory of Music is regarded as one of the premier music schools in the country and we're thrilled that they have chosen to include our model 801R and 901 products in their recording system upgrade."
