Motion Picture Sound Editors Honor George Watters II

Supervising sound editor George Watters II took home the 2012 MPSE Career Achievement Award at the 59th Annual Golden Reel Awards, held February 19. Watters II is a two-time Academy Award–winning supervising sound editor, with Oscars in 1990 for The Hunt for Red October and in 2001 for Pearl Harbor.

Supervising sound editor George Watters II took home the 2012 MPSE Career Achievement Award at the 59th Annual Golden Reel Awards, held February 19. Watters II is a two-time Academy Award–winning supervising sound editor, with Oscars in 1990 for The Hunt for Red October and in 2001 for Pearl Harbor. He has also earned eight Academy Award nominations, including Top Gun (1986), Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country (1991), Crimson Tide (1995), Armageddon (1998), Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003) and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest (2006). In addition, he is a four-time MPSE winner and has been nominated for three BAFTA Awards.

“To me, sound plays such an important part in movies,” Watters II said. “When sound works, it has a lasting contribution.”
