Music producer Phil Ramone (L) and engineer/producer Frank Filipetti
Audio-Technica announced that the company’s microphones were used at Elton John’s Radio City Music Hall live-to-tape special that will premiere on Bravo, Saturday, November 27th. John performs his greatest hits, spanning four decades, accompanied by the London Royal Academy of Music’s Symphony Orchestra and New York’s Juilliard School of Music Orchestra.
Phil Ramone was the event’s music producer, while engineer/producer Frank Filipetti was the overall mix engineer. New York–based remote recording specialists Effanel Music, with sub-orchestra mix engineers John Harris and Joel Singer, recorded all the audio as well as fed orchestral stems to Filipetti. In addition, long-time Elton John front-of-house engineer Clive Franks handled the live mix for the packed Radio City Music Hall audience.
A wide array of Audio-Technica microphones were used to capture Elton’s Radio City Music Hall performance including: 60 ATM35’s, 21 AE5100’s and 20 AT4050’s for the orchestra; as well as 13 AE5400’s for background vocals and brass.
