From L to R: President Joshua Hearst of Webster’s Student Section of the AES, Paul Lehrman and faculty advisor Gary Gottlieb

Webster University's student section of AES recently hosted engineer, educator and Mix columnist Paul Lehrman. The event was held in Webster's Winnie Moore auditorium in St. Louis on November 10, 2005 and began with the documentary Bad Boy Made Good, shot and cut by Lehrman. The video chronicles the life of George Antheil, a legendary composer who wrote the Ballet Mecanique, a score that was once impossible to perform due to the limitations of early 20th century music technology.

The documentary detailed Antheil’s career, and flowed into the process of discovery that Lehrman experienced when he resurrected and digitally arranged the Ballet Mecanique. Following an intermission, Lehrman then played an arrangement of the Ballet Mecanique, played in sync with an avant-garde film.

Upon reaching a podium's microphone to answer questions, Lehrman joked, "Ooh, an AKG 202. I haven't seen one of these in years."
