Marantz PMD-570
Marantz Professional, a division of D&M Professional, exhibited the PMD570 pro-installation solid-state recorder and the high-resolution PMD671, the latest in the lineage begun with the PMD670, at NAB this week.
The first rack-mount recorder that can record an entire 8-hour day (or longer depending on the selection of recording format, bit rate and media size) without changing media, the PMD570 offers MP3, MP2, .WAV and BWF format compatibility. It records directly to affordable Compact Flash memory cards, which can be removed for easy file transfer to a computer or allow access to the files by utilizing the I/O port. The unit features variable bit-rate recording with user-adjustable sampling rates from 16 kHz to 48 kHz. An advanced EDL marking system lets users mark and divide files in many different ways, as well as create new files on the fly during recording, providing easy file selection during playback. Marked files are recognized by the optional PMDEdit software, also available from Marantz Professional for easy file editing, management and archiving. MSRP: $1,099.99.
Like its predecessor, the Marantz PMD671 records to Compact Flash cards, has no moving parts, and offers multiple recording modes, long record times—up to 36 hours of stereo recording on a 1 GB Compact Flash card—and battery times of up to six hours with standard AA alkaline batteries.
The PMD671 offers a long list of professional features such as Virtual Third Head (VTH) confidence monitoring, Time-Shift Playback, which allows the user to back up and listen to passages while continuing to record an event, XLR microphone inputs with phantom power, built-in condenser microphone, RCA line inputs, USB 2.0 connectivity for audio transfer to a PC, and an optional wired remote.
The unit is capable of 24-bit, 96 kHz PCM recording; a 1 GB Compact Flash card can provide up to 30 minutes of record time at high-resolutions. New microphone preamps have also been designed for the PMD671.
