RTL’s Grand Studio, home to a new Studer Vista 7 and the popular talk show ‘Les Grosses Têtes’

‘Les Grosses Têtes’ is France’s oldest and most popular radio talk show and broadcast from the Grand Studio at RTL Paris. The show is one of the first productions to benefit from a new Studer Vista 7 digital mixing console installed as part of a complete refurbishment of the studio.

With its origins in the famous Radio Luxembourg station founded in 1933, RTL is today the leading broadcaster in France. At its facilities in Paris, the Grand Studio can accommodate audiences of up to 100 and is used for a wide variety of productions, from talk shows to musical concert multitrack recording and mixing. The diversity of users was a critical issue for RTL when it came to choosing a new console.

“The versatility of the console, which offers full dynamic automation and can also be completely reconfigured, was one of the key criteria,” says Philippe Magniez, in charge of engineering at RTL. The presence of several other Studer consoles at RTL was also a factor. “By making this choice, we can keep the continuity with Studer, which has already equipped five RTL studios with digital consoles. It also offers continuity for the freelance sound engineers who use the studio, many of whom are already trained on this console in France.”

The Grand Studio’s new Vista 7 console is equipped with a total of 60 faders, 10 in a remote bay that can be used for expanding the number of channels to the mix or as an additional pre-mixer for the main desk. It is capable of accepting 56 microphones, 40 line inputs and 72 AES/EBU digital inputs.
