Award-winning re-recording mixer Ken Teaney has joined Todd-AO Hollywood, where he will team with re-recording mixer Lisle Engle to focus primarily on episodic television projects. Episodic television is the fastest growing segment of the facility’s business. Teaney and Engle are currently handling audio post work for the ABC series Men in Trees and for TBS’ My Boys. The pair is assisted by recordist Richard Camara.
Teaney and Engle will work out of a newly remodeled mixing and screening stage equipped with a Digidesign Pro Tools digital audio workstation and ProControl digital mixing console. The stage also has access to a Soundelux sound library of more than 320,000 sound effects.
According to Teaney, he and Engle developed an immediate rapport. “We have a team philosophy,” says Teaney. “Although we are working on different aspects of the sound, we are both listening to the whole soundtrack. We are focused on storytelling.”
The pairing of Teaney and Engle is the latest move in the ongoing expansion of Todd-AO Hollywood. The facility has made technical upgrades, in part, to facilitate its growing roster of television clients. “Ken and Lisle are first-class talents and make wonderful additions to the Todd-AO team,” says operations manager Richard Burnette. “We have placed them in a superb mixing environment, equipped with the very best technology, so that they can maximize their talents, work efficiently and deliver an exceptional product to our clients.”
Teaney formerly held a staff post at Wilshire Stages and brings a long list of credits in episodic television, feature films, commercials and other media. His television work includes series such as CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and The Division. Teaney's more than 300 film and MOW credits include Friday, Blade, The Count of Monte Cristo and Menace II Society. He has also mixed more than 30 large-format IMAX films. Teaney expects to continue to handle large-format and feature film projects as his television schedule allows.
Teaney began his career at Wally Heider Recording Studio in Hollywood, and is the recipient of Emmy, Clio and CAS awards. He has also served as a guest instructor at Full Sail, UCLA and Loyola Marymount University.
Engle comes to Todd-AO Hollywood from the company’s Burbank facility, where he worked on Alias and Without a Trace. Engle has a background in feature films as a sound effects editor for such titles as About Schmidt, Bend It Like Beckham, Vanilla Sky and Monster’s Ball. An accomplished songwriter and musician, Engle began his career in the recording industry before segueing into audio post-production.
