On Thursday, June 2, 2016, Live Design presents an exclusive Webcast with veteran Broadway sound designer Nevin Steinberg, who designed the sound for the hit musical Hamilton. This webcast is sponsored by Meyer Sound and DPA and moderated by Ellen Lampert-Gréaux, creative director for Live Design.

Hamilton has just broken the record for the most Tony Award nominations for a Broadway musical, with 16 nominations including best musical! Since sound design is no longer a Tony category, Live Design is celebrating Steinberg’s work for this groundbreaking production about America’s founding father, Alexander Hamilton, with book, music, and lyrics by Lin Manuel Miranda, a triple Tony nominee for Hamilton, which also won the 2016 Pulitzer Prize in drama.

Steinberg designed the sound for the world premiere of Hamilton at The Public Theatre, and redesigned it for the Broadway version at the Richard Rodgers Theatre. In the June 2 Webcast he will discuss the sound design from inception to completion: a look at his inspiration for the design, technical challenges, details about the gear choices, collaborating with the other designers, and achieving the optimum sound for this show with its complex score that embraces rap and has redefined the experience of a Broadway musical. Associate sound designer Jason Crystal will join Steinberg for this historic webcast.

Webcast highlights include:

• The sound design for the hit musical, Hamilton, both at The Public Theatre and on Broadway.

• How the sound design enhances a totally new, almost modern operatic score with book and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda, triple Tony Award nominee for Hamilton, and orchestrations by Alex Lacamoire, also a Tony nominee for Hamilton.

• The choice of sound gear, from console to loudspeakers, microphones, etc.

• How the sound design team coordinated their efforts in creating a new paradigm for sound on Broadway.
