AES 127th Convention Technical Tours Chair Lou Manno
Drawing from the New York area’s unparalleled variety of media-rich options, 127th AES Convention Technical Tours Chair Lou Manno (pictured) has once again developed a stellar series of rare, behind-the-scenes visits. 127th Committee Chair Agnieszka Roginska reports that this year’s program covers a particularly diverse field. “Lou Manno has a keen eye (and ear) for uncovering unique destinations guaranteed to be of great interest to AES attendees,” Roginska says. “We all benefit from his encyclopedic knowledge of New York’s pro audio community.”
The AES Technical Tour program includes:
Friday, October 9, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.— New York University’s Steinhardt School of Culture, Education and Human Development Department of Music and Performing Arts Professions, a 7,500-square-foot recording studio/teaching complex currently under construction near Washington Square Park.
Friday, October 9, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.—Thomas Edison National Historical Park in West Orange, New Jersey.
Friday, October 9, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.— AT&T’s Global Network Operations Center (GNOC) in Bedminster, N.J., the nerve center of AT&T’s telecommunications network.
Saturday, October 10, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon—DuArt, one of the world’s best known film and video processing companies, founded in 1922.
Saturday, October 10, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.—Industrial Acoustics Company in the Bronx, a major player in the design and construction of Acoustic Walls, Varitone Sound Absorption Panels and Acoustic Doors used in many world-class recording studios, schools and universities.
Sunday, October 11, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.—Sterling Sound, featuring nine studios and mastering suites, and 15 celebrated engineers including one who is dedicated to vinyl.

Monday, October 12, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon—audioEngine, a leader in New York City’s audio post-production market.
Monday, October 12, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.—EUE Screen Gems Studios, a full-service, 125,000-square-foot complex in Midtown Manhattan that handles production on classic daytime TV series including Guiding Light, Search For Tomorrow and Edge of Night, featuring six stages and support areas and a fully integrated digital workplace.
