Adobe Announces Audition for Mac

Today, Adobe Systems announced that the new incarnation of its Adobe Audition all-in-one professional audio toolset for recording, mixing, editing and mastering would be available in a cross-platform version supporting either PC or Mac platforms. Designed specifically to take advantage of Apple’s Intel-based Macs, Adobe Audition for Mac is a ground-up development effort (not a simple porting from the PC version) that will feature familiar tools for audio editing, multitrack mixing/editing/recording and advanced audio restoration capabilities.

The new features in Adobe Audition for Mac include powerful audio editing and multitrack mixing views; superior noise reduction capability, Native 5.1 surround support and multichannel effects, plus other new effects, as well as high performance multi-threaded processing, and flexible, parallel workflows that are optimized for fast-paced audio post-production.

Although the software will not be released in beta version until later this year, Adobe is actively encouraging audio pros to sign up to be notified when the beta is available so they can test some of the new features and provide the product team with their feedback.

“We are fortunate to have a strong community of audio professionals who have helped us shape Adobe Audition into an incredible application,” says Adobe’s Jim Guerard. “By signing up to be notified when the public beta is available, you’ll be providing valuable input so we can deliver the best final product possible.”

Currently, Adobe Audition 3 is available for Windows for an estimated street price of $349 for the full version, with upgrades available from an estimated street price of $99. Adobe plans to allow users of Audition 1.5, 2.0 and 3.0 to upgrade to the cross-platform version of Audition regardless of OS.
