On September 18 and 19, Al Schmitt was on Remote Recording’s “Silver Studio” at Symphony Hall in Boston to capture Chris Botti & Friends for an upcoming DVD and PBS broadcast. Among the guest artists were Sting, Steven Tyler, Yo-Yo Ma, and Josh Grobin, along with the Boston Symphony Orchestra.

Schmitt recorded the show on Remote Recording’s Neve VR console, and used KRK E8s for monitoring. He used Beta 98H mics on Botti’s trumpet and a Shure KSM9 served as Botti’s vocal mic.

When asked about the show, Schmitt said, “Working with David [Hewitt] and Karen [Brinton] was a great experience. I know the project was a success because of the way everything was handled. Both Chris Botti and his manager, Bobby Colomby, were impressed with the professional manner of Remote Recording. You guys are the best!”

The CD is scheduled for release in late November, and the DVD release date has not yet been disclosed.
