CEDAR Introduces DNS One Plug-In for Pro Tools Systems

CEDAR Audio announces DNS One, the company’s first software-based dialog noise suppression plug-in in RTAS format for Pro Tools HD and LE systems that run on Mac OS X and Windows. DNS One is designed for all studio environments, and particularly for post-production for film, TV and video. The new GUI allows users to control hundreds of channels of DNS (software and hardware, in any mix you choose) from a single Pro Tools host.

Noise suppression techniques are used to clean up dialogue for film production, to suppress ambient noise for live TV and radio broadcasting, to revitalize sound effects libraries, and to enhance speech for forensic audio investigation.

Users control DNS One using the dedicated DNS Control System software. The plug-in allows users to control as many instances of DNS One as the user’s host system can support, plus up to 126 instances of DNS2000 and DNS3000. DNS One is also fully integrated with Pro Tools’ automation and its hardware control surfaces, such as the Icon, D-Control and D-Command. The DNS Control System is completely cross-compatible between DNS One, the DNS2000 and the DNS3000, so users can install DNS One alongside existing hardware units, creating sessions on one and later, if desired, recalling them on either of the others.

DNS One reportedly offers the same level of performance as CEDAR’s other DNS Series products: the DNS1500, DNS2000 and DNS3000. The CEDAR DNS1000 introduced the noise reduction technology upon which all-subsequent DNS products have been based, used in TV, film and post-production studios worldwide. In February 2005, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences recognized the DNS1000 by awarding Technical Achievement Awards to its designers.

CEDAR’s flagship DNS3000 uses the same DNS technology as DNS One, but adds a tactile control surface, onboard timecode, memory and automation. It can be used as a stand-alone processor or in conjunction with Pro Tools.

The DNS2000 offers the same performance as DNS One. As well as offering all the Pro Tools integration of a plug-in, it can also be used as a real-time, zero latency world-to-world dialog noise suppressor.
