Cinema Audio Society Announces 2007 Awards Nominees

The Cinema Audio Society (C.A.S.) will hold its 43rd Annual Awards ceremony on February 17 in Los Angeles at the Biltmore Bowl in the Millennium-Biltmore Hotel. The organization recently announced its nominees for Outstanding Achievement in Sound Mixing for 2006.

In the “Motion Pictures” category, the nominees are re-recording mixers Jon Taylor and Christian Minkler, and production mixer Jose Antonio Garcia for Babel; re-recording mixers Andy Nelson and Anna Behlmer, and production mixer Ivan Sharrock for Blood Diamond; re-recording mixers Michael Minkler and Bob Beemer, and production mixer Willie D. Burton for Dreamgirls; re-recording mixers John Reitz, Gregg Rudloff and David E. Campbell, and production mixer Walter Martin Jr. for Flags of our Fathers; and re-recording mixers Paul Massey and Christopher Boyes, and production mixer Lee Orloff for Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest.

The nominees in the “Television Movies and Mini-Series” category are re-recording mixer Andre Perreault and production mixer Lisa Pinero for Desperation; re-recording mixers Mark Linden, Tara A. Paul, Liam Lockhart and Harry Snodgrass for Flight 93; re-recording mixer Paul James Zahnley and production mixer Mike Westgate for Jean-Michel Cousteau’s Ocean Adventures: Sharks at Risk; re-recording mixers Elmo Ponsdomenech and Joe Earle, and production mixer Steve Weiss for Sleeper Cell, Part 7: Fitna; and re-recording mixers Sergio Reyes, Tim Borquez and Kevin Burns, and production mixer Stephen Halbert for Walkout.

In the “Television Series” category, re-recording mixers R. Russell Smith and William Freesh, and production mixer Geoffrey Patterson are nominated for the Deadwood episode “A Two-Headed Beast”; re-recording mixers Gerry Lentz and Rich Weingart, and production mixer Kenn Fuller for the Heroes episode “Genesis”; re-recording mixers Frank Morrone and Scott Weber, and production mixer Robert Anderson for the Lost episode “I Do”; re-recording mixers Kevin Burns and Todd Orr, and production mixer Mathew Price for The Sopranos episode “Members Only”; and re-recording mixers Michael Olman and Kenneth Kobett, and production mixer William Gocke for the 24 episode “Day 5: 7:00 A.M. – 8:00 A.M.”

In the category “Television – Non-Fiction, Variety or Music – Series or Specials,” the nominees are re-recording mixer Bob Bronow for Deadliest Catch episode “Cashing In”; re-recording mixers Ken Hahn and Jay David Saks, location sound mixer David Hewitt and location sound recording engineer Bill King for Great Performances: “South Pacific” In Concert From Carnegie Hall; re-recording mixer Bob Bronow for the Into The Firestorm episode “Going South”; re-recording mixer Sue Hartford and production mixers Scott Harber and Doug Dunderdale for Nova episode “The Great Robot Race”; and re-recording mixer Matt Foglia and music mixer David Kahne for Paul McCartney: The Space Within Us.

For the “DVD Original Programming” category, the nominees are re-recording mixers Samuel Lehmer and Brad Hillman, and production mixer Tim Richardson for Air Buddies; re-recording mixers Mark Rozett and Kelly Vandever for American Pie 5: The Naked Mile; re-recording mixers Mark Rozett and Kelly Vandever, and production mixer David Kirschner for Bring It On: All or Nothing; re-recording mixers Terry O’Bright and Keith Rogers, and Doc Kane for original dialog recording, for Brother Bear 2; and re-recording mixer Mike Draghi, and Eric Lewis for original dialog recording, for Ultimate Avengers: The Movie.

C.A.S. also unveiled the products nominated for its Technical Achievement Awards. In the “Production Technologies” category, the nominees are Lectrosonics’ SM 400 Wireless Transmitter, Rycote Under/Overcovers, Schoeps’ CMIT 5U shotgun microphone and Sound Devices’ 744T field recorder. In the “Post-Production Technologies” category, the nominees are the AMS/Neve Gemini console, Cedar DNS 2000, Digidesign ICON and Digidesign Pro Tools Version 7.2 software.
