Rain Computers Launches Nimbus Workstation

Rain Computers in Ringwood, N.J., introduces its next generation Nimbus Multimedia Workstation designed for professional audio, video and graphics production. Nimbus offers users a multimedia platform for creating music, animation, 3-D graphics and video content, and Rain Computers states that it has tested and certified Nimbus for optimum performance and stability with software (such as Steinberg Cubase, Adobe CS5 and Sony Vegas) and hardware.

Musical instrument retailer American Musical Supply (AMS) is offering $100 off of two configurations of Nimbus from November 17 through December 15, 2010.

Nimbus, which normally starts at $1,799, is built around the recently released 6-core processor architecture from semiconductor designer AMD. The second model, priced at $2,199 before discount, includes the NVIDIA Quadra 600 workstation graphics accelerator, which is designed specifically for high-end graphics and video production. Memory and storage can be expanded to 16 GB and 8 TB, respectively. The system is controlled by a version of Windows 7 Pro 64-bit that is specially tuned by Rain for audio and video production.

Rain founder and CFO, Bill Paschick, designed Nimbus exclusively for AMS customers. This is the first such design he has personally undertaken since the original Element that marked the beginning of Rain computers in 2003.
