Re-Recording Mixer Gary Summers Joins Todd-AO

Four-time Academy Award–winning re-recording mixer Gary Summers will join Todd-AO Studios, an Ascent Media Group company. Summers will primarily work on Stage 1 at Todd-AO Hollywood, which features an AMS Neve/DFC console and has access to the facility’s Soundelux library of more than 330,000 sound effects.

“Gary Summers is a formidable creative talent,” says Robert C. Rosenthal, Chief Operating Officer for Ascent Media’s sound facilities. “Having Gary decide to join Todd-AO is a high compliment and a strong vote of confidence in our people and our business.”

Summers has mixed several projects on Todd-AO’s stages. “I have tremendous respect for Todd-AO, both
in terms of the facilities they operate, and the creative environment they have built,” says Summers. “It’s very stimulating to be around incredibly talented people who care so deeply about their work.”

Summers credits his recent experience mixing the upcoming feature Charlotte’s Web with Todd-AO re-recording mixer Scott Millan as a catalyst for his desire to join the company. Millan, who also serves as Todd-AO’s senior vice president of operations, suggested the idea. “Gary’s professionalism, creativity and positive energy are contagious,” Millan says. “Our clients and staff very much enjoy working with Gary and I know he will thrive as a permanent part of our group.”

With a total of seven Academy Award nominations, Summers is a four-time Oscar winner for Best Sound, including for Saving Private Ryan (1998), Titanic (1997), Jurassic Park (1993) and Terminator 2 (1993). In addition, Summers is the recipient of an Emmy Award, two BAFTA Awards and three C.A.S. Awards.

After launching a career as an independent re-recording mixer in 2003, Summers has worked on several high-profile feature films, including The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, Finding Nemo, Mystic River, Cars, and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.
