Sound Mixer Paul Massey Joins Sony Pictures as Vice President, Sound Director

Six-time Oscar nominee and three-time BAFTA winning sound mixer Paul Massey (pictured) has joined Sony Pictures Post-Production Facilities as Vice President, Sound Director. Based at the Sony Pictures Studios lot in Culver City, Calif., Massey will handle theatrical re-recording, working on upcoming releases including The Amazing Spider-Man for Columbia Pictures, The Lone Ranger for Walt Disney Pictures, and 47 Ronin for Universal Pictures.

Massey will report to Richard Branca, Executive Vice President, Post-Production Facilities, Sony Pictures Entertainment. “We are thrilled to welcome Paul back in this expanded role to Sony Pictures, his home of many years,” says Branca. “His tremendous artistry and technical expertise are true assets to the studio’s post-production business.”

Massey received Oscar-nominations for his work on 3:10 to Yuma (Best Achievement in Sound Mixing, 2007), Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest (Best Achievement in Sound Mixing, 2006), Walk the Line (Best Achievement in Sound Mixing, 2005), Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World (Best Sound Mixing, 2003), Air Force One (Best Sound, 1997), Legends of the Fall (Best Sound, 1994). His BAFTA wins for Best Sound include Walk the Line, Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World, and Almost Famous.

Massey has more than 30 years of experience in sound mixing and is originally from England, where he studied music and worked in studio and live music recording. He previously worked at Sony Pictures from 1996-2000 as a re-recording mixer.
