Convertible Cardioid technology has been integrated into several new Adamson products that have recently been developed, including the SpekTrix Sub, the latest addition to Adamson’s SpekTrix compact line array system. The SpekTrix Sub is now shipping.
“On paper, the cardioid sub appears to be the ultimate solution,” said Brock Adamson, CEO of Adamson Systems Engineering, “but in the real world, things are quite different. For example, the behavior of a cardioid sub is very dependant upon ambience. A clean installed array of cardioid subs surrounded by free air works perfectly and matches the needs of classical music or speech, but that same rig stacked inside a club, in close proximity to walls, will not be optimal for dance or reggae music. That’s why we are launching a range of new products that are convertible.”
Didier Dal Fitto, chief engineer for DV2 (Adamson Support Europe), explained that the project was successfully achieved in three steps. “First, we have developed dedicated simulation software to fully understand cardioid behavior and ambient considerations; then, we have designed the right enclosures and rigging systems; and finally, developed finely tuned algorithms that are already implemented in the brand-new Adamson DX6000 processor.”
Adamson continued, “The reason we call it ‘convertible’ is that the subs are a single-sided box that can be arrayed conventionally, all facing the same way or, with our special rigging, can be arrayed in back-to-front pairs for true cardioid performance.”
