The X-HD option card allows for direct connectivity between ProTools|HD systems and the Rosetta 800 8-channel AD/DA converter.

“We are pleased to offer HD users the ability to interface theRosetta 800 directly to their workstations, giving them the opportunityto enhance the sonic potential of their system,” said BettyBennett, co-founder and CEO of Apogee.

Features include primary HD port to connect directly to HD Core orAccel cards; expansion port to daisy-chain multiple Apogee devices;compatible with the latest versions of Pro Tools software; and can beused alongside similar interfaces (such as Digidesign 1922, Prism DreamADA-8).

The option card will be available in April 2004 with a MSRP of$595.

In other company news, the Digi-Mix expansion card (MSPR: $595) forthe Rosetta 800 is now shipping. The Digi-mix option card allows fordirect connectivity between Pro Tools Mix systems and the Rosetta 8008-channel AD/DA converter, providing superior quality conversion to ProTools Mix users without the need for an additional interface.

Features include standard Digidesign peripheral connector tointerface directly to Mix Core or Farm cards; Superclock (FSx256)output for convenient integration into existing Pro Toolsconfigurations; with necessary Pro Tools hardware expansion, multipleRosetta 800s may be connected into a system; Rosetta 800 may be usedalongside an Apogee AD-8000 or Trak 2 outfitted with an AMBUS-Digi8+card, as well as any other Pro Tools Mix-compatible hardware; andmultiple slaved Rosetta 800s may lock to Word Clock or directly to theDigi-mix card for low-jitter synchronization of the Pro Toolssystem.

Apogee also showed its X-Series FireWire expansion card, whichallows for a direct connection between Apogee’s Rosetta 800 andany FireWire-equipped computer. Based on new S800 standards, theX-FireWire Card uses an expansion slot in the Rosetta 800, and in allfuture X-Series-based systems to give users of Logic, Nuendo and otherpopular software the option of Apogee conversion. The two ports on theApogee X-FireWire Card facilitate daisy-chaining additional devices togive users great expansion options for their DAWs.

Features include two S800 FireWire connectors; a standardoff-the-shelf adapter cable allows connection to S400 FireWire ports;compatibility with Apple's OS X built-in FireWire Core Audio driver;supplied with Windows XP WDM/ASIO driver; up to 16x16 24-bit channelsat 44.1/48/88.2/96 kHz; up to 16 24-bit channels at 176.4/192 kHz;fully compliant and compatible with 61883-6 and other relevant1394-IEEE and AES specifications; and allows low-jitter synchronizationto a FireWire audio network and can provide a master clock source for aFireWire audio network.

The FireWire expansion card will be available in April 2004 for aMSRP of $595.

New at AES from Apogee Electronics Corporation was the Mini-MP, thecompany’s latest addition to its Mini-Series, which includes theMini-Me and Mini-DAC. Mini-MP, a 2 -channel, analog mic/instrumentpreamp, offers the reference quality of Apogee’s Trak2 and thepreamps of the Mini-Me.

Featured in the Mini-MP are two, low-distortion, ultrafast,high-gain preamps that offer a full 70 dB of gain. The step-lessadjustment of Mini-MP’s gain knobs provides a smooth alternativeto switch mode gain adjustment and is ideal for those who like to“ride the gain” without pops or other gain-change artifactsbecoming part of their recording.

The phantom powered microphone inputs are capable of handling levelof up to +18 dB and the auto-select hi-Z inputs are ideal forinstruments and consumer-level equipment. On the output side, Mini-MPuses Apogee’s newly developed, electronically balanced linedrivers, which simulate true transformer behavior and allow for perfectsymmetry when used in balanced mode and no increased distortion whenused unbalanced.

Other Mini-MP features include Middle-Side mode to record audiousing an M-S configured mic setup, an 80Hz highpass filter and a phaseswitch.

The Mini-MP is now available for $995.
