AKG C 214 MICROPHONE
October 2008—The C 414 from AKG (www.akg.com) carries a legacy of more than 30 years — a true rock star among microphones. The new C 214 was designed as a budget-friendly alternative to the C 414 family. It uses the same 1-inch, gold-sputtered diaphragm as the C 414, but offers a single, fixed-cardioid pattern, arguably the most widely used in general studio and live sound applications. The C 214 features a switchable -6dB/octave low-cut filter at 160 Hz, switchable 20dB pad and 136dB max SPL handling. Price: $599, with shock-mount, windscreen and metal carry case.
AKG D7 HANDHELD MIC
August 2008—Intended for lead and backing vocals, the D7 from AKG features an improved supercardioid dynamic capsule, a humbucking coil to reduce electrical interference and an integrated 80Hz highpass filter to remove handling noise/stage rumble for increased audio clarity and intelligibility. Its laminated Varimotion diaphragm design allows the diaphragm to be fine-tuned without extra tuning resonators, offering the open sound of a condenser mic while maintaining the rugged reliability of a dynamic.
March 2008—The new D 4 ($160) from AKG is optimized for use on drums, percussion, wind instruments and guitar amps. Built of rugged aluminum, the dynamic cardioid mic features AKG's Varimotion diaphragm technology, allowing the user to fine-tune the mic with no extra tuning resonators. Other features include custom-built capsule mounting, a spring-steel wire-mesh grille, an integrated stand adapter and a mounting bracket for attaching the mic to the rim of a drum. The mic will take a blistering 147 dB of SPL and offers a slight bump at 150 Hz and 3.5k Hz, rolling off at 100 Hz to be down -20 dB at 50 Hz.
AKG C5 AND D5 WIRELESS MICS
September 2007—Wireless versions of AKG's C5 and D5 vocal mics are now available. The new C5 WL1 condenser and D5 WL1 dynamic mics offer two interchangeable capsule heads for the HT 4000 handheld unit as part of the WMS 4000 wireless system. Offering up to 1,200 selectable UHF frequencies, the WMS 4000 system comprises the SR 4000 receiver, HT 4000 handheld transmitter and a PT 4000 bodypack transmitter. AKG PERCEPTION 150
June 2007—The first front-address model in AKG's Perception Series, the all-metal Perception 150 ($279) offers a cardioid polar pattern and a switchable -10dB pad for handling SPLs of up to 145 dB. This externally biased condenser mic has a ½-inch diaphragm providing a 20-20k Hz frequency range, and it ships with a mic clip.
AKG ELLE C
May 2007—Created for female vocals is AKG's Elle C. This handheld cardioid condenser features a gold-plated XLR output, a rugged spring steel wire mesh grille and is offered in high-gloss metallic or white pearlescent finishes.

AKG PERCEPTION 400 CONDENSER
December 2006—Perception is reality with AKG's Perception 400 multipattern, large-diaphragm condenser mic ($599). Designed for studio and live use, the unit handles up to 145dB SPL and has a zinc/aluminum-alloy metal chassis and stainless-steel, dent-resistant grille to protect the capsules. The 400 features three switchable patterns (cardioid, omni and figure-8), switchable 10dB pad and bass roll-off (300 Hz at 12 dB/octave). The mic includes a shock-mount and case.

AKG HS 271 HEADSET MIC
October 2005—The HSD 271 combines a studio-quality, shock-mounted dynamic mic with the TEC Award–winning K 271 Studio closed-back circumaural headphones. AKG innovations make these ideal for on-air broadcasting, recording, monitoring, intercom and other pro applications. Features include a mic boom arm with 270 degrees of vertical and horizontal rotation that can be placed on the right or left without modifying the headset. Intelligent muting automatically silences the mic when the arm is moved up.
AKG D 3800M
July 2005—A supercardioid dynamic vocal mic, AKG's D 3800M ($263) features the company's VariMotion diaphragm technology. The VariMotion diaphragm's thickness varies across the diameter, allowing it to be tuned to a desired resonant frequency. A double suspension for the diaphragm yields significant suppression of mechanical noise, and a humbucking coil suppresses electronic interference. Three output modules are available for the D 3800M, including the standard XLR connector, XLR/S with on/off switch (D 3800MS) and the TM40 transmitter module for wireless operation. Frequency response is stated as 50 to 20k Hz with a max. SPL of 147 dB (1% THD); impedance is 600 ohms.
AKG C 5900M
July 2005—The C 5900M ($418) from AKG is a supercardioid condenser with a capsule suspended by a spider-type shock-mount for handling noise suppression. A spring steel wire-mesh grille increases durability and reliable control of pops and wind noise. The C 5900M includes switches for bass cut (12 dB/octave at 100 Hz, 6 dB/octave at 150 Hz) and output level (0/+6 dB), enabling the mic to drive less-sensitive mic inputs. Output module options include a standard XLR connector with gold-plated contacts and the TM40 transmitter module. The C 5900M may be powered via phantom supply from 9 to 52 volts. Frequency range is 20 to 20k Hz with a max. SPL of 139 dB (1% THD); impedance is 200 ohms.
March 2005—Unveiled at NAMM, AKG's C542BL recording boundary mic is a 3-inch diameter, indestructible metal plate for use on any reflective surface—walls, ceilings, floors, piano lids etc.

AKG WMS 400 Wireless Systems
September 2004—The primary design goal for AKG’s WMS 400 wireless system was to match wired mic performance in an affordable and easy-to-use system. Within seconds, the WMS 400 receiver scans, locates a clear frequency and transmits the data via infrared to the transmitter. Specs include 120dB dynamic range and 35 to 20k Hz bandwidth, with a 50mW RF output for dropout-free signals. Up to 12 WMS 400 systems can be used simultaneously in each of its two frequency bands for a maximum of 24 simultaneous systems. Receivers show all operating parameters, and if any fault condition (such as low battery) is detected, the display changes from green to red, easily visible from a distance. WMS 400 transmitters will deliver six hours of operation from a single 1.5-volt AA battery or eight hours of use from the optional high-current NiMh rechargeable battery. The WMS 400 is also compatible with accessories from AKG’s top-of-the-line WMS 4000, such as the antenna multicoupler, power supplies, line amplifiers, and active and passive remote antennas.

April 2003—Shown at Musikmesse were new versions of AKG's popular handheld mics (the D3700, D880 and TEC Award-winning C900), which will be available later this year in versions with "M" suffixes, equipped with a removable, wired XLR module that's interchangeable with wireless TM40 transmitters, instantly converting the mics to wireless operation. By allowing wired mics to become wireless, the system permits rental houses, tours or musicians to maintain smaller inventories: If a big wireless job comes in, then existing mics are easily converted; likewise, musicians don't have to buy two mics when they go wireless. AKG C414 B-ULS/SE
November 2002—Another take on a vintage mic is the AKG C 414B-ULS/SE Special Stereo Set, which has a nickel finish like the original 1976 to 1986 C 414EB, but pairs the classic CK12 capsules with modern UltraLinear Series electronics. The two-mic set with case, shock-mounts, stereo bar and windscreens is $2,100.
AKG C 451B
August 2002—The C 451B ($549) from AKG is dedicated to the company's classic 1969 CMS Series mic with interchangeable capsules (namely, the C 451 EB, plus CK 1), the new mic boasts improved specs while faithfully reproducing the original's acoustical behavior. Features include a switchable highpass filter (75 or 150 Hz), switchable pre-attenuation pad, and a flat, on-axis frequency response from 20 to 20k Hz. The mic also provides excellent RF interference protection.
January 2002—At the fall 2001 AES, AKG debuted the C 451B, a small-diaphragm condenser based on the transducer from its original C 451 EB + CK 1, but in a cardioid-only (noninterchangeable capsule) version with switchable 10/20dB pads, two-step highpass filtering, and new transformerless, low-noise electronics. Retail: $549.
AKG MICROMIC III
September 2001—AKG's MicroMic III Series of live sound mics feature improved signal/noise ratio (5 dB better than the MicroMic II Series). The new line includes the C 430 pencil-type cardioid condenser—specifically for cymbal and overhead miking—and the D 409 hypercardioid dynamic mic, which is designed to clip onto woodwinds, brass, drums and percussion instruments. Most MicroMic III Series models are available with connectors for use with wireless transmitters.
June 2001—The condenser Model C-5900 features a no-roll triangular body, along with AKG's InterSpider internal suspension system and a recessed access panel with -12dB low-frequency cut and -6dB/octave roll-off switches. The hypercardioid C-5900 lists for $378. AKG's Model D-3800 Tri-Power uses a patented moving magnet system to reject handling noise, is equipped with separate high- and low-frequency contouring switches and can take up to 147dB SPL without distorting. The D-3800, like the AKG C-5900, is a hypercardioid mic, and it features the same triangular body shape. Retail is $300.
October 2000—The C2000B is a side-address, cardioid condenser microphone with a (patent applied for) 1/2-inch active diaphragm that features high sensitivity and low self-noise similar to the best large 1-inch diaphragm mics, but at a much lower cost. Features include switchable 10dB pad, switchable 6dB/octave low-frequency roll-off at 500 Hz. Frequency response: 30 to 20k Hz. Maximum SPL for 0.5% distortion: 150dB SPL. AKG D880 EMOTION SERIES II
October 2000—A dynamic handheld mic for stage use, the D880 has a supercardioid pattern that's frequency-independent for excellent sensitivity at the front of the mic, while rejecting side and rear sounds. Features include a shock-absorbing steel wire-mesh grille, integral wind and pop screen, and a gold-plated XLR connector. List: $142. Frequency response: 60 to 20k Hz. Sensitivity: 2.5 mV/Pa. Equivalent noise level: 18 dB(A). The Series II Emotion Series includes the models D880, D880S, D770 and D660S vocal microphones and the new D440 and D550 instrument microphones.
