Cadac’s recently appointed Korean distributor, Dream Sound, has provided an F-Type console for the current production of the musical CATS! The show’s home in Seoul is a 1,700-seat tent in the Big Top Theater at the Jamsil Sports Complex, where it returned this past December after a three-month sell-out tour of the country. September’s typhoon caused substantial damage to the tent while on tour, and the console was shipped back to the UK for a thorough check. It has been given a clean bill of health and was shipped back to Korea for the show’s new season.

Dream Sound’s Jin Yoon Cho commented, “We are very proud to be appointed as Cadac’s Korean distributor. Our company has been established since 1999, and we have built up a high degree of technological and market expertise that will contribute to achieve wider success for Cadac here. Over the years, we have worked on some 15 major installations in the country, ranging from the Sejong and the Uijeongby Art Centers to the Seoul Women’s University.

“We have two principal routes to market for Cadac: through our company Korea Seoul Sound and through Dream Sound,” he continued. “Korea Seoul Sound focuses on the live sound sector, and we will be promoting the R-Type, J-Type and F-Type into this market. Dream Sound will concentrate on the compact S-Type, which we believe is ideally suited for church installations and medium-sized arts centers. This is an exciting opportunity for us, and we will be working hard to create a successful profile for Cadac. The CATS! production represented a marvelous starting point, and we have been greatly impressed at how well-built the J-Type console is—surviving with just a few scratches where many other products might have failed completely!”

The 54-slot Cadac F-type is split across two frames: one with 46 mono inputs with VCA faders, three mono input with motor faders and five stereo inputs; and the second 24-slot frame comprising six mono inputs with VCA faders, two stereo inputs, nine groups with DC masters, two matrix outputs, and auxiliary and control modules. Direction and choreography for the show was re-created by Jo-Anne Robinson, with Fiz Shapur as musical supervisor and Peter Grubb, of System Sound, as sound designer.
