CCRMA Summer Workshops Move to Banff

Six summer workshops (held July and August 2004) by StanfordUniversity’s Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics(CCRMA) will be hosted by The Banff Centre in Alberta, Canada, whileCCRMA’s Stanford facilities undergo renovations.

“The renovation of our facilities coincides with anopportunity to experience an expanded set of course offerings in afantastic setting,” said CCRMA director Chris Chafe. “TheBanff Centre’s music research and production team of experts andits tradition of training the next generation matches what CCRMA is allabout.”

The CCRMA@Banff workshops are designed for musicians and composersinterested in exploring widely used digital audio technology and forengineers, computer scientists and product designers. Programs includePhysical Interaction Design for Music (July 5 to July 16), HapticMusical Devices (July 19 to 23), Digital Signal Processing (DSP) I:Spectral and Physical Models (July 26 to August 6), Perceptual AudioCoding (August 9 to 13), Digital Signal Processing (DSP) II: DigitalAudio Effects (August 16 to 27) and ANET: High-Quality Audio OverNetworks Summit (August 20 to 22).

Program faculty for CCRMA@Banff include Chris Chafe, TheresaLeonard, Scott Wilson, Michael Gurevich, Bill Verplank, CharlesNichols, Perry Cook, Xavier Serra, Marina Bosi, Richard Goldberg,Jonathan Abel, Dave Berners and Julius O. Smith.

Music and Sound (pictured, Rolston Hall) at The Banff Centre offersprofessional development programs for musicians and audio engineers.Audio facilities include a state-of-the-art multitrack recordingstudio, an audio film post-production suite, digital editing andmastering suites featuring Sonic Studio HDSP and Pyramix workstations,an electro-acoustic studio for music composition and numerousperformance venues.
