Taking to the road with 7,000 square feet of exhibit space showcasing the latest in electronics, telecommunications and digital video, the TechKnow Overload (TKO) tour will visit more than 25 college campuses—including the University of Massachusetts Amherst, Northwestern, Florida International University, Clemson and UNC Charlotte on the first leg—with an estimated 100,000 students dropping in. West Coast schools will be among the tour's concluding destinations later in the spring.
Now in its fourth year running, the TKO Tour is orchestrated by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) and supported by a number of entertainment technology companies including Community Professional Loudspeakers, which is providing sound reinforcement for DJ Lamont. Spinning on the latest DJ Systems from Denon, DJ Lamont is heard throughout the expo on model TD2115 and TD2212 enclosures chosen from Community's catalog of Tandem Series components.
"The TKO crew initially came to us looking for both high-output DJ playback capabilities and outstanding vocal intelligibility," said Community retail market manager Mark Healy. "Given the fact that this is going to be a lengthy tour, they were also seeking extremely portable components that could withstand serious road abuse and still play well in front of a tech-savvy college crowd. Given these expectations, it clearly sounded like a job for Tandem Drive to me."
This year, the TKO Tour features several new pavilions, including a 200-square-foot "digital haven" stacked from floor to ceiling with the latest in wireless technologies, PDAs and digital cameras. The "Ultimate Dorm Room" display serves as proof of how college living conditions can be transformed into a techno-wonderland, while a Surround Sound Pavilion offers visitors a chance to compare home-theater-in-a-box options.
"It's exciting to be part of this event," Healy added. "As entertainment technologies continue to converge and become more interactive, we plan to be there every step of the way with bold new market-driven designs to meet every need. The TKO tour is one of the best mediums for us to get our message out to a sophisticated generation of customers armed with more product knowledge than ever before."
