Digidesign’s two new hardware exchange programs grants owners of qualifying hardware systems the opportunity to upgrade to a Digi 002, Digi 002 Rack or Control|24. This offer is valid in North and South Americas and Canada.

Registered owners of Digi 001, Mbox and Digi Toolbox/Audiomedia III can upgrade to Digi 002 or Digi 002 Rack and save up to $900 off list prices. Digi 002 and Digi 002 Rack are 96kHz-capable, FireWire-based, and feature eight channels of analog I/O (with four mic pre’s), 10 channels of digital I/O and built-in MIDI I/O. The Digi 002 also includes an integrated control surface with eight touch-sensitive motorized faders and eight motion-sensitive rotary encoders. The Digi 002 Rack includes the same I/O capabilities as Digi 002, but in a 2U enclosure without the control surface. Both systems include the latest version of Pro Tools LE software for Windows XP and Mac OS X.

Owners of qualifying control surfaces and mixers can upgrade to Control|24, an integrated front end for Pro Tools TDM and LE systems, for $5,495.

The result of a Digidesign and Focusrite partnership, Control|24 features an ergonomic control surface that includes 24 touch-sensitive and motorized faders, 16 Focusrite Class-A mic pre’s, 5.1 surround capabilities, Ethernet connection, and compatibility with Pro Tools TDM- and LE-based systems (except Digi 002). The control surface provides hands-on access to and control of Pro Tools recording, routing, mixing and editing parameters.

Eligible products for exchange to Control|24 include select control surfaces by JL Cooper, Mackie, Radikal Technologies and Steinberg. Select digital mixers by Mackie, Panasonic/Ramsa, Roland, Spirit/Soundcraft, Tascam and Yamaha, and select analog mixers by Soundcraft, Spirit and Mackie.

In other Digi news, the company announced Pro Tools LE 6.1.1 software, a free, cross-platform update featuring an overhauled low-level driver architecture and providing a true open-hardware platform for users of third-party software products. (Users can pick from a broad list of popular applications and use them in tandem with, or as an alternative to, Pro Tools LE.) The software update and stand-alone driver installers are available to Pro Tools 6.1 software owners via download from the Digidesign Website at www.digidesign.com.

Recommended for Pro Tools LE 6.1 software users, the Pro Tools 6.1.1 update offers improved system stability and performance when using both audio and MIDI I/O on Digi 001 and Digi 002/Digi 002 Rack systems. Pro Tools LE 6.1.1 also provides other significant enhancements such as Core Audio driver support for Digi 002/Digi 002 Rack; new stand-alone installers for Core Audio, ASIO and Wave drivers that can be used without having to install Pro Tools; and other Pro Tools software enhancements such as Windows Media 9 export on Windows XP-based systems.

Improved Core Audio drivers now fully support the Digi 002/Digi 002 Rack units, plus a new “Opt-In” method to exclude known incompatible software from accessing the hardware. The enhanced Core Audio driver can also be used with Mac OS X-based TDM systems.

Other enhancements include an improved playback-only .WAV driver, Windows Media 9 support (Windows XP only) for better audio quality and broader compatibility when working with Internet-centric applications, and a customizable Shuttle Lock Speed feature that allows setting shuttle speeds between 50% and 800%.
