Eastern Acoustic Works, a LOUD Technologies brand will show a newseries of arrayable loudspeakers, the AX Series, that incorporate acoaxial MF/HF driver design to provide consistent coverage over thewidest possible frequency range.
The coaxial MF/HF driver combines an 8-inch cone and a 1.4-inch exitcompression driver. Both share a neodymium magnet while a sealedaluminum chassis acts as the heat sink for the entire assembly. Forconsistent coverage over the widest possible frequency range, the MF/HFdriver assembly is coupled to a single horn, which occupies almost theentire front of the AX Series' enclosure. The EAW engineering team thenincorporated the new Concentric Summation Array™ (CSA)technology, a design based on the patented Radial Phase Plug, to solvecomplex acoustic problems that generally prevent the coupling of acoaxial driver directly to a horn. The net result is an astonishinglysmooth frequency response, consistent polar patterns over a wideoperating bandwidth and exceptional vocal clarity.
The AX Series speakers are a true tri-axial design: A pair of12-inch woofers are located on opposite ends of the enclosure, creatingan acoustic origin on-axis with the coaxial MF/HF driver. The spacingbetween these woofers provides exceptional pattern control at lowfrequencies.
To facilitate construction of horizontal and vertical arrays, EAWengineers designed the AX enclosure with trapezoidal angles on all foursides. Furthermore, the MF/HF horn can be rotated, allowing the patternto remain fixed regardless of cabinet orientation.
Three AX Series models offer dispersion patterns ranging from45°x45° to 90°x60°. The 3/8-inch threaded mountingand pullback points facilitate installation. AX Series speakers can bepowered in either full-range passive or bi-amp modes.
The EAW AX Series, which will begin shipping in Q2 2004, iscurrently on display at the NSCA show in Las Vegas Nevada, demo room S231. For more information, visit EAW at www.eaw.com. For more new sound reinforcementproducts, visit mixonline.com/live_sound_products/index.htm.
