Grace Design announced introduced two new additions to its product line at AES: the m906 and m904 high-fidelity monitor systems.

Designed for audio professionals in the music recording and television/film sound markets, the m906 is a stand-alone, high-fidelity, 5.1 surround monitoring system. The m906 comprises three system components: a 2U, 19-inch rack-mount I/O and processing mainframe; a remote-control unit; and an external half-rack linear power supply. Multiple analog and digital inputs are provided for both 5.1 and stereo sources. Digital formats include AES3, ADAT, S/PDIF and optical, and incorporates Grace’s latest-generation, ultralow-distortion 24-bit, 192kHz D/A converter technology.

Two 5.1 control room outputs and up to three stereo pair outputs are provided with individual channel solo/mute capability. Comprehensive system calibration tools allow users to fine-tune input levels, individual interchannel balance and control room output levels. Other features include a built-in reference headphone amplifier with two headphone outputs and a talkback mic input with an associated TB switch to communicate with in-studio talent. Control room and headphone output levels are precisely controlled via a pair of stepped rotary encoders, each with a 100dB level range adjustable in .5dB steps. Two large seven-segment blue LEDs show output levels.

Contained in a 2U, 19-inch rack-mount enclosure, the m904 incorporates the same analog and high-resolution digital audio circuitry as the m906, but is designed for users who don’t require 5.1 multichannel capabilities. Two balanced, one unbalanced and one stereo cue inputs are provided on the analog side. The 24-bit, 192kHz digital inputs include two AES3 stereo pairs, an S/PDIF pair and a switchable optical/ADAT pair. Mute, dim and mono switches are provided, as well as the headphone amplifier and calibrate and talkback features of the m906. All features of the m904 can be operated directly from the front-panel controls of the unit, and an optional m906-style remote-control unit will be made available.

“Following the introduction of our model 901 reference headphone amp last year, we began to receive numerous requests from customers who wanted the sonic detail and accuracy afforded by the model 901 but on a much larger scale,” said Grace Design VP of sales and marketing Doug Wood. “Most of these requests have come from folks using the latest generation of high bit/sample rate DAW’s, and who have not been satisfied with the resolution of their current monitoring systems.”

The m906 is expected to begin shipping in November and will have an SRP of $5,495 (USD). The m904 is also expected to ship in November with a base SRP of $2,495 (USD). An optional remote-control unit will be made available for the m904 with pricing and availability yet to be determined.
