Lake Contour Complements Sound System at Salt Lake City Small Theater

Poll Sound has outfitted the Small Theater at the Conference Centerfor The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Salt Lake Citywith a new audio system that incorporates three Lake Contour digitalloudspeaker processors. The new audio system includes an L-AcousticdV-DOSC loudspeaker system and a Yamaha PM1D digital mixingconsole.

“With that quality of goods, we were seeking the best qualityprocessors that we could find,” commented Poll Sound principal DewardTimothy. “There are three Lake Contours installed in the Small Theater:One is used for the main left/right system, there’s a second one forthe center cluster and under-balcony speakers, and the third is usedfor effects.” The 911-seat proscenium theater is the venue for severalreligious-based plays annually, according to Timothy.

The Small Theater is located within the Church’s Conference Center,a 1.5 million-square-foot building located just north of Temple Squarein Salt Lake City. The complex also features a large indoor auditorium,the 21,000-seat Assembly Hall, which is spacious enough to hold twoBoeing 747 aircraft.

“One of the reasons why the Lake Contour was chosen, beside itsquality, is its unique ability to create asymmetrical filters,”Timothy continued. “We spent quite a bit of time measuring andimplementing filters into the system. It was just the ticket. Thoseasymmetrical features are a definite plus, whether you’re using themfor road or install. We were looking at phase response and amplituderesponse simultaneously. I was able to get a much smoother phaseresponse out of the system than I’ve ever accomplished before. A lot ofthat was because of Lake Contour’s ability to build the filters the waythat you want them.”
