Kim Simmonds (right) of blues/rock band Savoy Brown recently stepped into Lakewood Audio Video Group (Jamesville, N.Y.) to mix and master the band's upcoming album, You Should Have Been There, and his solo acoustic album, Stuck By Lightning.

Handlingmixing and mastering duties was Ron DeRollo (left), engineer/owner ofthe facility. Recording was done to Alesis ML9600 MasterLink, Ampex andStuder 2-tracks and Pro Tools|HD3, then to a Sonic Solutions masteringworkstation. Monitoring was via Dynaudio “Air 6” 5.1surround, Genelec 1031As, UREI 813B time-aligned speakers, Yamaha NS10sand JBL 4421s. “The vocal chain I used while mixing the leadvocal was all analog: first into a Manley VoxBox for compression,de-essing and EQ, then into a Pultec EQP-1A for some ‘air’and finally into either a UREI 1176 or Empirical Labs Distressor forfinal compression.
