As the new president of the NAB Education Foundation, MarcellusAlexander will oversee the expanded foundation’s services, including the annual Service to America summit held each June inWashington, D.C.; he will remain executive VP of television at NAB.
“It’s great to have someone as talented as MarcellusAlexander step in and continue molding NABEF into a major force in theindustry,” said NAB president and CEO Edward O. Fritts. “Webelieve Marcellus is just the person to take the NAB EducationFoundation to the next level.”
The foundation’s mission includes expanding diversity at keylevels in broadcasting through training programs from entry-levelcareers through station ownership; enhancing the quality of newsproduction; and recognizing radio and television’s extraordinarycommunity service and stimulating new idea for the future. In addition,NABEF will merge its operations with NAB’s human resourcedevelopment office and career center.
“I look forward to working with the Foundation board, committee and staff to build on NABEF’s success,” Alexandercommented. “Chuck Sherman [who Alexander is replaced as Shermanis retiring] has established a strong legacy, particularly with respectto programs that serve women and people of color. Similarly, DwightEllis, VP of human resources development, has created an equally solidfoundation of programs that address broadcasters’ career needs. It makes perfect sense to coordinate the efforts of both these officesto better serve our members and constituencies.”
