MXL V88 CONDENSER MIC
April 2008—The V88 ($349), a general-purpose mic from MXL, is a large-diaphragm (32mm), pressure-gradient condenser with a fully balanced transformerless output. Internally wired with Mogami cable, the V88 offers low self-noise, 138dB SPL rating, Class-A electronics, nickel-plated finish and a low-profile form factor — less than six inches in overall height. It ships with an aluminum flight case and shock-mount adapter.

November 2007—This new stereo mic from MXL features dual 22mm capsules with gold-sputtered diaphragms aligned in a 90° X/Y configuration. July 2006—MXL Microphones has unveiled a baby-blue beauty in the seemingly contradictory M3 Silicon Valve solid-state microphone. The title refers to the designer’s promise to deliver a solid-state FET amplifier output stage that resembles the performance characteristics of a tube mic. The large-diaphragm, pressure-gradient condenser mic uses a 1-inch capsule with a gold-sputtered, 6-micron diaphragm, and is optimized for vocal work. It comes in two versions: one standard (M3, $349), the other voiced specifically for female vocals (M3-P, $369).

March 2006—This affordable, new microphone from MXL features a 1-inch capsule, Class-A FET circuitry and three switchable patterns (omni, cardioid, figure-8). Based on its 603 mic, MXL’s 604 ($179.95) is a front-address cardioid condenser that’s targeted toward instrumental recording. The slender small-capsule mic is able to fit in tight spots and offers a -10dB pad, making it able to withstand high SPLs.
