MXL MICROPHONES MXL V89
October 2009—MXL Microphones’ (www.mxlmics.com) V89 is a large-diaphragm condenser mic with a custom design that minimizes body resonance and a tuned grille cavity to help eliminate standing waves and reduce harmonic distortion. The fixed-cardioid pattern V89 has a gold-sputtered diaphragm and offers high sensitivity and low-noise circuitry. Retail is $599, with three-year warranty, wood case and shock-mount.

MXL V88 CONDENSER MIC
April 2008—The V88 ($349), a general-purpose mic from MXL, is a large-diaphragm (32mm), pressure-gradient condenser with a fully balanced transformerless output. Internally wired with Mogami cable, the V88 offers low self-noise, 138dB SPL rating, Class-A electronics, nickel-plated finish and a low-profile form factor — less than six inches in overall height. It ships with an aluminum flight case and shock-mount adapter.

March 2008—The Genesis mic from MXL is a large diaphragm cardioid condenser featuring a 1.2-inch capsule with a 6-micron, gold-sputtered diaphragm, Mullard 12AT7 tube and phantom powering. Retail is $799.

February 2008—MXL’s new flagship microphone, Genesis ($799) exhibits the clarity and warmth typically associated with tube mics. Designed primarily for vocals, this large-diaphragm cardioid condenser features a 1.2-inch diameter capsule with a 6-micron, gold-sputtered diaphragm and a hand-selected Mullard 12AT7 tube — known for its clean, rich tone and a silky high- end. The mic has a -10dB pad; a 100Hz, 6dB/octave roll-off switch; and operates with 48-volt phantom power. Genesis will be supplied with a power supply, heavy-duty shockmount, and Mogami mic and tube cables housed in a high-quality flight case. Each Genesis mic has a serial number and is supplied with QC verification of excellence documentation.

MXL V67Q STEREO MIC
November 2007—This new stereo mic from MXL features dual 22mm capsules with gold-sputtered diaphragms aligned in a 90° X/Y configuration. The V67Q ($299.95) features a green body with a gold head grille designed to protect the sensitive capsules from wind noise, plosives and other popping-type sounds. It ships with a protective pouch, mic clip and a 5-pin cable that breaks out to two standard XLRs.

June 2007—The MXL 190 ($149) cardioid condenser microphone from MXL features a 6-micron condenser, pressure-gradient capsule; switchable -10dB pad; 20-20k Hz frequency response; and a champagne-colored finish. MXL MICROPHONES M3
July 2006—MXL Microphones has unveiled a baby-blue beauty in the seemingly contradictory M3 Silicon Valve solid-state microphone. The title refers to the designer’s promise to deliver a solid-state FET amplifier output stage that resembles the performance characteristics of a tube mic. The large-diaphragm, pressure-gradient condenser mic uses a 1-inch capsule with a gold-sputtered, 6-micron diaphragm, and is optimized for vocal work. It comes in two versions: one standard (M3, $349), the other voiced specifically for female vocals (M3-P, $369).

MXL 2010
March 2006—This affordable, new microphone from MXL features a 1-inch capsule, Class-A FET circuitry and three switchable patterns (omni, cardioid, figure-8). It is internally wired with Mogami cable. A -10dB pad is included for those high-SPL situations, while a low-frequency roll-off compensates for proximity effect and room rumble. The slick-looking, silver-finished mic ships with shock-mount and deluxe carrying case. Price: $199.95.

March 2006—Our “I should a thought of this first” award went to MXL’s V67i, a $199 cardioid condenser with back-to-back 1-inch capsules (voiced “warm” and “bright”), with a switch between the two, putting two completely different mic sounds in one body.

MXL 604 INSTRUMENT MIC
Based on its 603 mic, MXL’s 604 ($179.95) is a front-address cardioid condenser that’s targeted toward instrumental recording. The slender small-capsule mic is able to fit in tight spots and offers a -10dB pad, making it able to withstand high SPLs. The satin silver — finished mic also features a low-frequency roll-off, and ships with a mic clip, a windscreen and a wood storage box.

October 2005—The MXL 604 dual-capsule instrument miking system is a pressure-gradient condenser microphone with an interchangeable omnidirectional capsule. The microphone features a -10dB attenuation switch, along with selectable LF roll-off capability. The 604 has a satin silver finish and includes a mic clip, windscreen and wood storage box. October 2005—Featuring Class-A FET circuitry, the new 2010 is a pressure-gradient condenser microphone with a large 25mm (1-inch) gold-sputtered diaphragm. July 2005—The Desktop Recording Kit (DRK) from MXL ($99) is squarely aimed at the home recorder looking for an all-in-one solution for desktop recording. The kit comes complete with a desktop microphone stand, microphone clip, XLR cable, XLR-to-Mini-Plug adapter, 3.5mm Mini-Plug-to-¼-inch adapter and power source. The battery-powered mic is a fixed-pattern cardioid condenser that works with a stand-alone preamp or directly connected to a computer’s soundcard via provided cables.

March 2005—The second offering in its Silicon Valve™ Series, MXL’s V6 is a large-diaphragm condenser designed to produce the sound of a tube mic. The V6’s solid-state FET amplifier with balanced transistor output reduces harshness created by odd-order harmonics and musically unrelated distortions. October 2002—The 603Spr Recording Package contains two 603S mics,
which are matched and include shockmounts and a rugged flight case. The
603S condenser mics are best used as drum overheads and in
guitar-miking applications. The 603S has a 20mm gold-deposited
diaphragm with a 20-25k Hz frequency response. The polar pattern is
subcardioid. The 603S is internally wired with world-renowned Mogami

August 2002—The MXL 603 ($99) from Marshall Electronics is a new
20mm, 6-micron, gold-diaphragm condenser mic. Intended primarily for
drum, ambient and orchestral miking applications, the supercardioid MXL
603 is internally wired with high-quality Mogami cable throughout and
is externally finished in classic silver. Specs include a 20 to 25k Hz
frequency range and 137dB maximum SPL, and its transformerless design
provides a solid bottom and open top end. It’s also offered bundled
with Marshall’s large-diaphragm MXL 2001-P as the $199 Recording
Package..

MXL 1006BP
January 2002—AT AES NYC, MXL’s 1006BP is an added twist to the
market of inexpensive, cardioid, 1-inch-capsule condenser mics. A
9-volt battery compartment allows the 1006BP to be DC-operated for
sampling or remote recording, or phantom-powered in the studio. Retail:
