Roland VS-2000CD Digital Studio Workstation

Roland announced the VS-2000CD Digital Studio Workstation, thecompany’s first V-Studio with plug-in support. The VS-2000CDboasts 20 recording tracks, eight XLR inputs and an optional VGA outputwith mouse-based graphical editing, as well as a 40GB hard drive, CD-RWdrive, USB 2.0 and more. With support for the optional VS8F-3 Plug-InEffect Expansion Board (up to two), the VS-2000CD lets musicians useplug-in effects from Roland and optional third-party plug-ins fromAntares, IK Multimedia, Massenburg, Universal Audio and more.

The VS-2000CD offers CD-quality recording at a choice of 16- or24-bits. An internal 40GB hard drive provides hours of multitrackrecording, while 320 virtual tracks give users room to be creative and“comp” the perfect take. Eight XLR inputs with phantompower make recording multiple vocalists or an acoustic drum set areality, while a hi-Z input handles guitar and a S/PDIF digital inputslets users connect with digital gear. The VS-2000CD’s 40-channeldigital mixer boasts 17 faders and dedicated channel edit knobs. Inaddition, there are four knobs to control the dynamics and 4-band EQfor any input or track. Onboard effects include necessary studioessentials, plus COSM® Guitar Amp and Microphone Modeling and anew Harmony Sequence function to add realistic harmonies to avocal.

The VS-2000CD also comes with a new Rhythm Track feature, which letsusers program stereo drums on tracks 17 to 18 using high-quality PCMsounds. A variety of preset patterns are included or users can createtheir own. A chromatic tuner is also included. The VS-2000CD includesRoland’s V-LINK technology to integrate audio and video, plus USB2.0 for easy data transfer between the VS-2000CD and a computer.

Finally, by adding the optional VS20-VGA Output Board (with Version2.0 software available later in 2004), users can see their projects onthe big screen by connecting an optional VGA monitor and mouse.

Connections to the VS-2000CD include eight XLR/TRS inputs, a hi-Zinput, two 1/4-inch TRS outputs, four RCA outputs, a stereo headphonesoutput, S/PDIF digital I/O in coaxial format, MIDI In/Out jacks, afootswitch jack and USB 2.0 port.
