Shays Rebellion, a Massachusetts-based record label, announced that it has purchased Kurt Foster Recording Services of Fremont, Calif. The purchase ensures that the San Francisco Bay Area will continue to have an affordable, 2-inch analog recording studio.

"This is a chance for Shays Rebellion to both expand its label with the use of the studio and to get into the Bay Area market," said label president Mike Iacuessa. Iacuessa will produce and engineer at the facility. "The Bay Area has the highest concentration of musical talent of any area in the country. Since the 1960s, it has consistently produced major acts in a variety of musical styles."

The new studio, also called Shays Rebellion, will continue to operate as it did under Kurt Foster, but with added vintage gear. As well offering an MCI console, the studio features a collection of classic Universal Audio compressors and Neumann and AKG mics. Shays Rebellion will also be adding CD-R duplication for customers. The studio will offer special grand opening rates on long projects, particularly full-length albums; Shays Rebellion will continue to offer its $300 four-song demo.

Fosters credits include blues legend Brownie McGhee's last album, Jeff Larson, Kenny Blue Ray, Danny Hull of the Doobie Brothers, Gary Cambra (The Tubes) and Jackie Payne, as well as dozens of local bands.
