Steinberg announced Steinberg ID (Steinberg Input Device), a control device that allows audio professionals to control their audio software with a familiar “console” work environment. Steinberg ID has been designed to control Nuendo’s audio production and editing functionality seamlessly within the work environment.
ID comprises four sections dedicated to various aspects of recording, editing, mixing and mastering. The Fader Section offers 24 channels for direct access. LCDs show track names and current status of important channel parameters: solo, cut, track arming, direct channel strip access and automation status. To control levels, Steinberg ID offers 12 high-quality, touch-sensitive motorized faders and 12 encoders. The Encoder Section features a complete channel strip layout with 24 endless encoders with button function, 24 two-line displays and 24 level indicators for direct access to any channel parameter. Controlling VST plug-ins is supported by 24 endless encoders in conjunction with 48 lines of display and 12 additional “favorite” encoders with displays. The Edit Section’s integrated matrix ASCI keyboard and the high-quality trackball allow the user to operate the computer and the software completely without mouse and keyboard. The transport controls with the weighted dial support ergonomic workflow by controlling several edit functions from Nuendo’s Project window. The Edit Section also offers switches and status displays for nearly every important edit function. Additionally, a number of user-configurable groups of controls and switches allow direct control of any Nuendo command that the sound engineer needs to create a personal toolbox.
