On October 1, 2003, Superscope Technologies celebrated its tenth anniversary as the worldwide trademark owner and developer of Superscope brand products. In a few months, the company will also reach the brand’s 50-year milestone.
To mark these occasions, Superscope has launched a “Superscope History” section on its Website, www.superscopetechnologies.com, which features photos and an in-depth account of its history.
“Superscope has a rich and fascinating history in the world of audio and video,” said the company’s marketing communications manager, David Pratt. “Superscope first appeared as a trademarked-wide screen motion picture process in 1954. This process was used on a number of wide-screen releases by RKO Studios in the 1950s.
“Superscope was the exclusive distributor of Sony tape recorders and other Sony products in the United States from 1957 until the mid-1070s,” Pratt continued. “There are those who still recall the Sony/Superscope-branded tape recorder products of the 1960s. Superscope also manufactured and sold Marantz products worldwide.”
