Concert Sound Ltd., one of Europe's audio rental companies, hasselected JBL's VERTEC VT4889 system for worldwide live sound use. Thedecision to deploy VERTEC for upcoming European and North Americantours by performer Eric Clapton comes after a successful run of eventsin Japan during November and December.
The Japan concerts used a VERTEC system arranged in cooperation withHibino Sound. The shows were mixed by sound engineer Robert Collins(pictured, right), who has worked with Clapton since 1989, "VERTEC? Nowthis is a right proper, professional P.A. system. Enough said,"remarked Collins after the first of several shows in Tokyo's Budokanarena. Clapton's Japanese dates covered 18 venues throughout thecountry's major cities, including the new Sapporo Dome.
"Our company, and Eric Clapton's production team, has decided tomove forward with JBL VERTEC after carefully reviewing the various linearray options available today," said Tim Boyle, managing director forConcert Sound. "We've long-known the value and superior power-handlingcapabilities of JBL's loudspeaker components through our own internalcustom stage monitor projects. Now, it's interesting to see JBLachieving broad, worldwide acceptance of their new line array systems,which once again appear to be pushing live sound technology forwardwith JBL's advanced transducers."
In February, Concert Sound technicians will be readying their newarena-sized system for production rehearsals. Concerts begin on theEuropean continent in March, with numerous dates already confirmed forGermany, Belgium, Denmark and the UK. Clapton's European tour willfinish with a week of shows at London's Royal Albert Hall and thenheads to North America for summer event dates.
