740 SOUND DESIGN DEBUTS MIX, V.O. AND FOLEY STUDIOS–CLIO Award-Winning Company Expands into Own Facility

Los Angeles, CA—740 Sound Design has opened its own audio post production facility and added mix to its award-winning sound design service. The expansion enables the company to move into television, digital media and select documentary films in addition to the commercial work it has done for a decade.

740’s most recent work includes sound design for the Montana Meth Project’s new ad campaign, produced by Venables Bell & Partners and directed by cinematographer Wally Pfister.

The company’s new state-of-the-art facility, which 740 reconfigured from the ground up, is equipped with Pro Tools systems for 5.1 mixing, Voice Over, ISDN, Foley, ADR, Audio Laybacks and more. Some ten times larger than the company’s previous space, the facility includes two mixing stages, two Voice Over/Foley rooms and multiple sound design rooms, all adjacent to the agency-rich Playa Vista community.

“Expanding into mix was a natural next step for 740, said owner and Executive Producer Scott Ganary, who mixed feature films and TV for more than two decades before founding his company. “Every bit of sound design I’ve produced over the past ten years has been oriented toward what the final product would sound like in the mix and on the air. I’m excited to bring this long-held vision to fruition with our own mix facility.

The facility is also enabling 740, which previously shared space with a local music company, to reposition itself as a pure sound design and mix studio, a rarity in the industry. Its new studios were designed by Peter Grueneisen at Nonzero Architecture and built by Oscar Mata at H&H Construction.

740’s expansion mirrors the evolution of sound design, says Gary Paticoff, Senior Vice President, Executive Producer, Content, at the RPA advertising agency. “This is a terrific move for an outstanding sound design company that’s already widely admired and respected, Paticoff says.

740 holds numerous sound design credits with RPA including “Mecha Mosquitoes, part of the Honda Fit campaign. 740’s more recent credits also include Intel, Barclays, Audi ads and the Montana Meth Project’s latest campaign for Venables Bell & Partners; Nintendo, HP, Comcast, Frito-Lay, Cheetos and Denny’s ads for Goodby, Silverstein & Partners; Ladders and Travelers ads for Fallon; Nissan for TBWA/Chiat Day; and work with Campbell/Ewald, Saatchi & Saatchi, and the Target Corporation.

The economic downturn didn’t deter 740 from expanding and repositioning, Ganary says. He was confident that major clients would stay with the company. In fact, in a bold move, Ganary took advantage of the recession’s more affordable real estate, low interest rates and rock-bottom equipment costs to increase the quality and control of 740’s product: great sound.

“The added value of 740 is that, above and beyond great sound, we’re passionate about and understand the complexity of what it takes to create a great commercial, Ganary says.

“You have to synthesize a multitude of elements quickly and precisely, choosing from a vast lexicon of sounds that have history and meaning to the viewer, and you have to know how the audience is going to perceive it all. That’s what takes us to the next level and we’re thrilled to be doing it with both sound design and mix in our own space.
