On Saturday afternoon at this year’s Winter NAMM Show, producer/engineer Jack Douglas and Joe Perry of Aerosmith will join moderator Mr. Bonzai in an exploration of the inception and creation of a great album, the historic “Toys in the Attic.” Recorded at The Record Plant in New York City, it was released in 1975, won two Grammy Awards and sold over 32 million copies worldwide.

The Forum (203 A-B) Level Two of the Convention Center

Following the panel, Jack Douglas will receive the NAMM TEC Hall of Fame Award, and Joe Perry will receive the Les Paul Award during the 32nd annual awards show, being held Saturday evening, January 21 in Anaheim.

Jack Douglas got his start in 1969 at Record Plant recording studio in NYC as a janitor, and within a few short years was working with John Lennon, Cheap Trick, Alice Cooper, Miles Davis, The James Gang, and Aerosmith. He is associated with many of Aerosmith’s most iconic releases and is affectionately dubbed “the sixth member” for having contributed lyrics to several tracks released by the band. He produced many multi-Platinum Aerosmith albums, two of which ranked among Rolling Stone’s “500 Greatest Albums of All Time.”

Joe Perry, who was included in Rolling Stone’s list of “100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time, is a co-founding member of Aerosmith, a group whose music repertoire spans four decades. Perry’s versatile musicianship and influence has helped pave the way for a long list of accolades that reach beyond the band’s more than 150 million albums sold. In the role of principal songwriter, lead guitarist, and as producer for multiple tracks featured on several notable Aerosmith albums, Perry’s talent has helped contribute to the super group’s four Grammy awards, (Perry also earned a Grammy nomination for his solo guitar-based instrumental “Boogie Man”); six Billboard Music Awards; twelve MTV Video Awards; and two People’s Choice Awards, to name a few.

Mr. Bonzai, an award-winning photographer and music journalist, has written over 1,000 articles for magazines in the U.S., Europe and Asia. His photos and stories have appeared in Rolling Stone, Billboard, Mix, EQ, Pro Sound News, Keyboard, Daily Variety, Hollywood Reporter, Los Angeles Times, and the New York Times.  He has authored seven books, including “Faces of Music” (Cengage, 2006) “Music Smarts” (Berklee Press, 2009), “John Lennon’s Tooth” (BookBaby 2012) and “Studio Life” (30th anniversary eBook, BookBaby 2014).
