Vintage King Audio proudly hosted the 5th annual triumphant return of Afterglow, the premier recording industry after-party during the 2013 AES Convention. This year a day of demos and an evening bash was held at the legendary Chung King Studios, known around the world as “The Abbey Road of Rap.”

AES attendees congregated at the renowned Chung King Studios throughout the day for exclusive demo sessions presented by Afterglow sponsors Focal Press, Mojave Audio, Royer Labs, Barefoot Sound and Shadow Hills Industries, then partied the night away with industry figures at the very studio where some of the most seminal hip-hop records were recorded. Afterglow media sponsors included Pensado’s Place and Gearslutz.

Shevy Shovlin, Vintage King’s Director of Partner Marketing and PR, commented, “The Fifth Annual AES Afterglow & Demo Day was a great success. Chung King Studios was abuzz from the start of the day with Bruce Swedien playing extremely rare Duke Ellington material that he recorded in 1962, to John Jennings’ beyond informative Ribbons-101 Clinic, to the recording session with The Emily Bell Band engineered by Dusty Wakeman with help from Peter Reardon and his mic pres, to a full on dance party in the control room with John King at the end of the night. Wow what a day!”

“Having Bruce Swedien kick off the VK Chung King seminars with recordings he had made of Count Basie, Joe Williams and Duke Ellington was amazing,” remarked John Jennings of Royer Labs. “He used mostly ribbon microphones on those recordings, so the music made for exceptional listening after his introductory talk about ribbons. What an amazing engineer and great guy, and what a rare privilege for all of us who were there.”

‘We a had a total blast hanging with the attendees at our recording session with Emily Bell,” added engineer Dusty Wakeman of Mojave Audio. “I much prefer actually recording music with our mics as opposed to standing around talking about ’em.”
