Five Fingers Vs. Pro Audio

As a word of warning, although this blog post contains pro audio-related material, you will not be educated or informed on pretty much anything by reading it. It contains no insights into the industry or brilliant observations that will illuminate your day. However, it may entertain you, and will likely make you spend at least two minutes tapping random pro audio words into your keyboard. Why? Read on.

About a month ago, deep in the rush to get our next issue out the door to the printer, I typed up a news brief about Stardraw, the UK-based system design software company. In the process, I idly noticed that you can type the company name entirely with one hand. That’s a commonplace occurrence if your typing skills are of the “hunt-n-peck” variety, but it’s fairly unusual in the realm of traditional touch typing.

Alas, weighed down by the yoke of deadlines, there was no time to write an intellectual blog post like this one about such a jaw-dropping phenomenon. Instead, I spent about 30 seconds finding a few other companies, and shared the earth-shattering discovery on the @ProSoundNews Twitter feed:

@ProSoundNews: Procrastination game of the day: How many pro audio company names can you type one-handed? I got QSC, JBL, EAW, Stardraw. -Clive

Soon PSN reader Kevin Frost weighed in, posting:

@frosty_kevin: I got BSS, Crate, AEA, CAD, Dave Rat, dbx, Waves, iLok

…and no less an authority on professional audio than the Audio Engineering Society jumped in, remarking

@AESorg: I’ve always been partial to “AES” myself. 😉

In one deft move, we had discovered a new way to kill time (always a useful ability). Even better, because I’ve gotten this post out of it, I wasn’t really procrastinating; now it qualifies as “research.”

Now we turn to you, dear reader: Take a shot at this ultra-trivial pursuit and share below what one-handed pro-audio key combos you discover!
