It's that time of year again, as InfoComm has invaded the Las Vegas Convention Center for this year's confab. Here's a bit of what we saw on the eve of the show, during the quiet before the storm.

It’s that time of year again, as InfoComm has invaded the Las Vegas Convention Center for this year’s confab. Here’s a bit of what we saw on the eve of the show, during the quiet before the storm.

Load-in on Monday saw the show floor packed with boxes, booths and gear, gear, gear. Look closely and you can spot the Meyer Sound booth getting a paint touch-up on its green girders.

Christopher Roma, director of technical sales and engineering for Headlight Audio Visual in Portland, Maine, is the first AV professional to pass the Certified Technology Specialist exam at InfoComm 2012. More than 200 others hope to follow in his footsteps on-site at the Show, a new InfoComm record. A 23-year veteran of the AV industry, Roma credits a desire to set a good example to those starting their AV careers as one reason for earning the ANSI-accredited credential.

Scott Wills, CTS-D, CTS-I, director of international education and member services, discusses InfoComm training at next year’s ISE tradeshow with Pamela Taggart, CTS, manager, international education programs. At ISE, InfoComm runs a joint Education Zone with the show’s co-owner CEDIA, and many manufacturers have already submitted paper proposals for next year’s Zone.

Calibre UK is honored with the Queen’s Award for Enterprise 2012 in International Trade. Tim Brooksbank, chairman (pictured), says the company is launching three new processors, including the HQView530, LEDView530 and FoveaHD.

InfoComm President Greg Jeffreys presents the 2012 InfoComm International Educator of the Year Award to Nelson Baumgratz, CTS-D. Baumgratz has been an AV professional for more than 30 years, specializing in diverse areas from transmitter design and manufacturing, to IT consulting and systems design. He currently runs and co-owns EAV – Engenharia Audiovisual, an AV engineering design company located in Brazil, and has been a member of InfoComm University faculty since 2008, teaching dozens of classes throughout Latin America and during InfoComm trade shows in the United States. Baumgratz also serves as a faculty advisor at FAPCOM, a technology and communication school in São Paulo, Brazil, helping to develop a two-year technical degree based on InfoComm curricula.
