After 17 years of working on creating a film that captures the story of the 1960s group of studio musicians known as The Wrecking Crew, the filmmakers are starting up a Kickstarter campaign to raise the last $250,000 needed to take the long-gestating project over the finish line.
The Wrecking Crew is a film chronicling the career of the loose-knit group of L.A. studio musicians of the same name. They played with many of the 1960’s top artists, performing on hundreds of hits by The Beach Boys, Frank Sinatra, Nancy Sinatra, Sonny and Cher, The Monkees, Gary Lewis and more.
According to the filmmakers, the campaign will ask for sponsors to help accumulate the final $250,000 needed to finish the film, with $200,000 of that going to the American Federation of Musicians, thus ensuring the musicians who are on the contracts of all the songs featured in the film will be paid for their work. The film producers are also looking for sponsors to help with incentives to offer to potential backers in the Kickstarter campaign. The Kickstarter page is expected to launch shortly.
Current incentives lined up for backers include receiving 10 copies of “These Boots Are Made For Walkin’,” signed by Nancy Sinatra; a private lunch with Hal Blaine; a personal MP3 message for your home machine by Hal Blaine; a personal MP3 message for your outgoing voice mail message by voice actor and comedian Tom Kenny (voice of Spongebob Squarepants); an hour session with pianist Don Randi; and a Zildjian Cymbal signed by Hal Blaine.
Screenings of the film will also be held this month, featuring Heil Sound Microphones. Scheduled screenings include:
September 26 at 7 p.m. at the Colonial Theater (450 A. St., Idaho Falls, ID, 83402)
September 29 at 4:45 and 7 p.m. at The Flicks (646 Fulton St., Boise, ID, 83702)
